Crops: Guide to National Listing of Varieties of Agricultural and Vegetable Crops in the UK (PB10621)
This document provides a short guide to the National List system was adopted in 1973 following the UK entry into the European Community. EU Directives require Member States to prepare and publish National Lists of Varieties of the main agricultural and vegetable species which are eligible for certification and marketing in their territory. The EU Directives are implemented in the UK by the Seeds (National Lists of Varieties) Regulations 2001 (as amended). The procedure for making an application for National Listing is briefly explained in this booklet. Defra, PB10621, 2005.
Environmental impact of cereals and oilseed rape for food and biofuels in the UK
HGCA commissioned the Central Science Laboratory to review the current environmental effects of growing cereals and oilseed rape and assess how these may change when growing for biofuel markets. The review concludes that biofuel cropping can make a positive contribution to the environment. Biofuel production can help reduce reliance on fossil fuels, meet EU biofuel targets, cut greenhouse gas emissions and provide alternative markets for farmers. This leaflet provides a brief overview of Research Review 54 available from HGCA. HGCA Recommended List 2006/07 for cereals and oilseeds
HGCA Recommended Lists are run by Crop Evaluation Ltd, an independent company owned by HGCA and managed by all stakeholders involved in the Lists. Varieties are added to the Lists when they are considered to have the potential to provide a consistent economic benefit to the whole industry. Eleven new varieties have been added to the HGCA Recommended Lists for 2006/07, while thirteen have been removed. HGCA, 2006.
